Dr. Henessey

Suzanne Henessey

Associate Veterinarian

Suzanne Hennessy, DVM, graduated from the University of California, Davis in 1992 with her veterinary medical degree. She holds an AS in Biology and a BS in Physiology from Sacramento City College. Dr. Hennessy became a veterinarian due to her love for medicine and surgery, an interest she has had since third grade. She believes that veterinary medicine allows more leeway to practice effectively than human medicine.

Dr. Hennessy is USDA certified and licensed in both Oregon and California. She certified in low-stress handling techniques for dogs and cats. In 1996, she founded her own veterinary hospital, Pismo Beach Veterinary Clinic, which she later sold before moving to Oregon. In 2024, she began working at Ocean Veterinary Hospital.

Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Hennessy worked in research on air pollution at the California Primate Research Center from 1982 to 1988. Her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine include having a sense of purpose and caring for the innocent among us. She enjoys meeting new people, especially those attached to their animals, and thrives on the challenge of figuring out medical cases since animals cannot communicate what’s wrong.

In her free time, Dr. Hennessy enjoys dog training, particularly with her golden retrievers in obedience and agility competitions. She has competed with her dogs in both AKC and US events, as well as ASCA events. Additionally, she enjoys playing guitar daily and loves listening to music.
